Resumo

O período de transição em vacas leiteiras é um dos momentos mais desafiadores enfrentados tanto pelas vacas, quanto pelos produtores. Mudanças fisiológicas intensas, troca de alimentação, ambiente e manejo predispoem ao aparecimento de várias enfermidades nas vacas, diminuindo a sua produção, desempenho e expectativa de vida. Os produtores precisam lidar com altos índices de descarte involuntário, baixos índices de desempenho e baixo retorno financeiro quando esse período não é adequadamente conduzido. O monitoramento frequente durante o período de transição é fundamental para identificar rapidamente quaisquer desvios no desempenho esperado das vacas. Ao acompanhar regularmente os indicadores de saúde e produção, pode-se detectar problemas precocemente e implementar medidas preventivas ou corretivas. Isso garante que a produção esteja alinhada com os objetivos da fazenda, promovendo não apenas a saúde e o bem-estar dos animais, mas também a rentabilidade do negócio.

Abstract

The transition period in dairy cows is one of the most challenging times faced by the cows and the producers. Intense physiological changes, changes in diet, environment and management predispose cows to the onset of various diseases, decreasing their production, performance, and lifespan. Producers must contend with high rates of involuntary culling, low-performance levels, and poor financial returns when this period is not adequately managed. Frequent monitoring during the transition period is essential to quickly identify any deviations in the cows' expected performance. Regularly tracking health and production indicators can detect problems early, allowing for preventive or corrective measures to be implemented. This ensures that production aligns with the farm's goals, promoting the animals' health and well-being and the business' profitability.
