Abstract

Rhipicephalus microplus is a tick widely found throughout the world. In Brazil, it is considered one of the main ectoparasites responsible for economic losses in livestock, being associated with the transmission of pathogens to cattle, weight loss and lower milk production. One of the main forms of control since the 20th century is the use of acaricides. This review aims to understand the biological processes of R. microplus, the history and mechanisms related to chemical control as well as alternatives to them. The continuous and indiscriminate use of chemical products associated with failures in the application processes accelerate the process of resistance to acaricides. This article presents information on the main chemical bases, resistance, forms of application, forms of alternative control, transmitted diseases and biology of the cattle tick.
