Abstract

The evolution of the production capacity of dairy cows has attracted attention in recent decades. However metabolic diseases have become a serious obstacle to the health of cattle in the transition period, with emphasis on hypocalcemia due to the importance of calcium as a milk component. Therefore, this review aims to address the relationship between calcium and immunity and its implications when there is a reduction in blood concentration during peripartum. knowledge of this relationship may enable the clinician to suspect that subclinical hypocalcemia may both be present in the herd and be the origin of the diseases present during the peripartum period.
